# Exploring the Admissions Process at Harvard University
Harvard University is one of the most prestigious institutions in the world, attracting aspiring students from all corners of the globe. Whether you're applying for an undergraduate or graduate program, the application process can feel overwhelming. Here's a step-by-step guide to submitting your application to Harvard and what the admissions office is looking for in your essays.
## Application Process
To apply to Harvard, you must register an account with the Common Application or Coalition Application. Once you've created an account, you can start filling out the required forms and submitting the following:
- Transcripts from high school and any post-secondary schools attended
- Standardized test scores (SAT or ACT, and any subject tests required for specific programs)
- Two teacher evaluations
- Application fee or fee waiver form
For graduate programs, the application process will vary by program. Be sure to check the program-specific requirements on Harvard's website.
## Essay Requirements
Both undergraduate and graduate applicants are required to submit essays as part of their application. For undergraduate students, there are two essay prompts on the Common Application or Coalition Application:
1. How you will contribute to Harvard's community and how Harvard will help you achieve your personal and academic goals.
2. List any books, movies, shows, or other pieces of media that have influenced your life and explain how they did so in a specific and detailed way.
Graduate applications may require multiple essays. Be sure to check the program-specific requirements on Harvard's website.
## Supplemental Materials
Harvard's admissions office does not require any supplemental materials beyond what is listed on the application. However, you may choose to submit additional materials to showcase your talents and achievements. These might include:
- Research papers or other academic work
- Artistic portfolios
- Music or writing samples
- Resume or student activities list
## Admissions Considerations
Harvard's admissions office considers a variety of factors when evaluating applicants. In particular, they place a significant emphasis on academic achievement, leadership, and community involvement. They are also looking for applicants who have a unique perspective and can contribute to the diversity of the Harvard community. In your essays, you should demonstrate your academic potential and personal qualities that align with Harvard's values. You should also be thoughtful and genuine in your responses, showcasing your unique voice and perspective.
## Acceptance Rates
Harvard's acceptance rates vary by program. For the undergraduate program, the acceptance rate for the class of 2025 was 3.4%. The acceptance rate for graduate programs varies significantly, depending on the program. For example, the acceptance rate for Harvard Law School was 13.9% for the class of 2023. Applying to Harvard can be a daunting process, but with careful planning and consideration, you can increase your chances of success. Keep in mind that the admissions office is looking for applicants who are academically competitive and can contribute to the diverse and dynamic community at Harvard.
